Established in 1948, the Z Club program is one of Zonta International's
longest-running programs. Z Clubs help high school students develop
leadership skills, promote career exploration and encourage members to participate in community, school and international service projects. In 2010, our club established the Z Club at North Point High School. Z Club
members plan, organize and participate in unique activities designed to meet
the needs of members, their schools and the community, while emphasizing
an international outlook and strong international relations.
Our 26th Annual Fashion Show – Fashion Week in New York City - was
held on March 11th at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center.
Fashions were provided by JC Penney and CAbi Fashions. This was our
most successful fashion show to date. Our sold-out show welcomed nearly
500 guests and raised over $22,000.
The funds raised at the Fashion Show were put to use in the community.
We awarded scholarships to 2 graduating high school seniors, presented
a Young Woman in Public Affairs award, added to our endowment at the
Community Foundation of Charles County, and distributed grants totaling
$10,000 to several local agencies.
Our first service event for the fiscal year 2011-2012 will be our RAVE Walk. The event will be held at St. Charles Towne Center on October 15th. We will be continuing our partnership with the family of Gayle A. Cook,
a well-known Charles County crime victim advocate who died in 2000.
Proceeds from this year’s event will be distributed to the Center for Abused
Persons (CAP) and the Forensic Nurse Examiners. These two organizations
work to prevent violence against women and provide practical, emotional,
and psychological support to survivors. Funds will also be used to support
a scholarship for a domestic violence or rape survivor to help advance her
status.
We are 61 members strong, all dedicated to making a difference globally,
locally and to each other. We are part of a large international organization
that strives to advance the status of women through targeted scholarships,
International Service Projects in Rwanda, Liberia, Guatemala and El
Salvador and programs to end violence against women in Cambodia, Nepal,
Uganda and Haiti.
If you would like information on any of these programs or need any further
information, please contact me at info@zontacharlescounty.org.
Sincerely,
Kim Rosenfield, President
